A Reminder to "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" This Labor Day
September 2nd, 2016
I wanted to take the time to remind everyone here in Tyler and East Texas that this Labor Day weekend is typically one of those where many will get behind the wheel of a car while impaired. We can prevent drunk driving by following our laws, planning safe rides to and from places, and designating sober drivers. You can even use The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Safety Administration’s SaferRide app to call a taxi to pick you up. The app is available on both Apple and Android devices.
We are heading into a busy travel weekend, as many motorists will be traveling to see family and friends for the 3-day weekend. Law enforcement agencies will be on higher patrol this weekend to enforce the law and keep the public safe from impaired drivers. A sad fact but a true one, “Every day drunk drivers get behind the wheel when they know they shouldn’t,” says NHTSA Administrator Dr. Mark Rosekind. “With all the modern conveniences available, there’s no excuse. Put the keys away and call a sober friend, hail a taxi, or take public transportation home.”
Please think about the consequences of your actions before you act. If you’ve been drinking this weekend, do not get behind the wheel just because you think that you are fine to drive – you could injure or kill someone or yourselfA and that’s not worth it. Even getting a DWI is not worth it – coming back from a DWI will drain your energy and bank account for months to come. Let’s all be considerate of all the friends and families who have lost someone to drunk driving. Let’s make a conscious effort to keep Tyler and East Texas safe this weekend.
